5 Super Easy Tips For A Healthier Scalp, While Wearing Protective Hairstyles!!

I’m absolutely love wearing protective styles. Like right now, I’m rocking Nubian Curly Hair extensions. I love wearing my natural hair out in Miami at times, but I mostly wear curly-wavy extensions, clip-ins, or custom wigs. No matter the style, I believe it is important to take care of what is underneath while wearing protective styles. One thing I have learned, its very important to take treat your scalp with a little TLC while wearing your favorite hair styles. While wearing Nubian Hair I clean, oil, and massage my scalp to stimulate growth. Right now, I'm wearing a full sew-in of the Nubian Curly style and want to share my regimen with you. Let’s check them out!

1) Prior to Installing Nubian Hair Weft Extensions or Clip-ins

Maintaining a healthy scalp should be a daily a priority while wearing a weave.  You can jump-start your healthy scalp and hair care with applying your favorite oil or moisturizer prior to the in-stall. Avoid a heavy or thick grease. Remember you don’t want your scalp and hair to be too oily, so apply a minimum amount prior to your in-stall.

2) Check in with your Scalp!

Okay, so your hair has been installed and you've been rocking your hair extensions for a bout a week. Time to check in with your scalp. In between full washes, be sure to clean your scalp and oil/moisturize it as needed. Some women often forget to take care of their scalp with they are wearing a protective style. I guess out of site, out of mind huh? Whatever you do, check in with your scalp. I repeat…check in with your scalp!!! I often shampoo my entire hair, but there are times where I reach for my Herbal Cleanse Dry Shampoo to clean my scalp.

The ORS Herbal Cleanse Dry Shampoo is perfect because it cleanses, soothes, stimulate, and refreshes the scalp. The easy to use applicator allows you to get into tight places and more.

3) Make Sure Those Braids Are Dry

Don't be scared to pay close attention to the braids underneath your extensions. Whether you wash or dry shampoo your extensions and braids, its important to get em’ dry. Just grab your favorite magazine or book and sit under a dryer to make sure your braids are completely dry. Braids that do not dry properly will start to smell. And who wants to have smelly hair?! So make sure their properly dry.

4) Feed Your Scalp!

Okay…so after your braids are nice and dry, its time to feed your scalp! Choose your favorite oil and/or moisturizer to rub and massage on to your scalp. I use Optimum 6-in-1 Miracle Oil, its perfect for natural, transitional and even relaxed hair. In addition to moisturizing and strengthening hair to help prevent breakage, it’s fast-absorbing and delivers no build-up residue on the hair or scalp. It also doubles as an oil for you skin too. Try it out!

5) After You Remove Your Extensions/In-Stall

Whether you decide to re-install extensions or give your hair a breather, don't forget to deep condition those strands! When I remove my Nubian Curly  extensions, I apply my favorite deep condition Aubrey Organics, Blue Green Hair Conditioning Mask. After I slather this good ol’ conditioning mask on, I sit under the dryer for about 30-45 minutes. If I am doing work around the house, I’ll leave it in for longer then rinse it out.

These are just a few of my suggestions on products that works good with my scalp and hair-type. Whatever products you choose to use while wearing a weave/protective style. Whatever you do, don’t forget to take care the source of where your hair grows! Your scalp!!
